Ticket Price Index
What does it actually cost to get through the door? This index tracks the median get-in price — the cheapest available ticket for an event, before fees — across 164,880 priced live events currently listed on TheTicketers, in USD. It is rebuilt from our own listing data every day. Figures are free to quote or republish with attribution.
Key findings
- New York, NY has the highest median get-in price of any tracked city at $112 — 2.1× Portland, OR, the cheapest at $52.50.
- Concerts carries the highest median get-in price at $71, against $43 for Sports.
- Sports get-in prices are −31.8% against the first price we recorded for the same 19,681 events — sellers are cutting to clear seats.
- Concerts get-in prices are −13.4% against the first price we recorded for the same 126,955 events — sellers are cutting to clear seats.
- Theatre get-in prices are −12.0% against the first price we recorded for the same 10,240 events — sellers are cutting to clear seats.

How prices have moved since we started tracking
For every event below we hold at least two price readings. This compares the first price we recorded against the latest one for the same set of events, so the change reflects prices moving rather than the catalogue changing shape.

Method
- Get-in price means the lowest-priced listing for an event — what it costs to be in the building, not a typical seat. It is the listing price before the ticketing network's service fee, which is added at checkout.
- Median, not average. Resale prices are heavily right-skewed: one VIP box can sit in the same event as a cheap upper-deck seat. The median describes a real buyer; an average does not.
- One currency. Every figure is in USD, the currency of the largest set of priced listings. Prices in other currencies are excluded rather than converted, so no exchange-rate assumption enters the numbers.
- Minimum samples. A city needs 40 priced events and a category 50 before it is published, and the sample size sits beside every figure.
- Scope. These are resale-market listings on TheTicketers, covering events currently on sale. They are not box-office face values.
