What Happens If an Event Is Cancelled or Postponed?

By the TheTicketers editorial team · Updated November 2026

Short answer: cancelled means a refund, postponed usually means your tickets still work. If an event is cancelled outright and not rescheduled, you're eligible for a refund of the amount you paid for the tickets. If it's postponed or rescheduled, your tickets remain valid for the new date for most events, and you don't need to do anything. Both rules come from the 100% Buyer Guarantee that covers every order placed through the TheTicketers checkout.

Cancelled events

A cancelled event is one that won't happen at all and has no new date. Under the Buyer Guarantee, if an event is cancelled outright and not rescheduled, you're eligible for a refund of the amount you paid for the tickets. That refund is processed back to your original payment method, so you don't need to give new card details to get your money back.

TheTicketers is a resale marketplace, and every purchase completes on our secure TicketNetwork checkout. The guarantee shown on the seat-map checkout when you buy is the one that applies to your order, and the full guarantee terms shown at checkout govern each purchase. Postponed events: your tickets usually stay valid

A postponed event has been moved to a later date, sometimes before the new date is announced. For most rescheduled events, your tickets remain valid for the new date. You don't need to buy again, request new tickets or contact anyone just to keep your seats. Keep the confirmation email and the tickets you already received, because those are what you'll use at the rescheduled show.

The Buyer Guarantee notes that policies can vary by event and venue. When a show is postponed, check the latest event information for your date so you know when it is now taking place.

Rescheduled date or time, or a venue change

Sometimes an event keeps its date but moves to a new start time, or moves to a different day entirely. For most rescheduled events your existing tickets carry over to the new date or time. A refund under the guarantee applies when an event is cancelled and not rescheduled, so a new date on its own is not the same as a cancellation.

The Buyer Guarantee page does not set out a separate rule for a venue change. Because policies can vary by event and venue, check the latest event information and contact support if you have a question about what a change means for your order. For anything not covered here, see the Buyer Guarantee.

What if I can't make the new date?

Plans change, and a rescheduled show may land on a night you can't attend. The Buyer Guarantee says that if you can't attend the new date, you should check the latest event information or contact support, because policies can vary by event and venue. Get in touch as soon as you know you can't make it, so support can look at your specific order and tell you what applies.

How to request help

  1. Check the latest event information. Confirm whether your event is cancelled, postponed or rescheduled, and note any new date or time.
  2. Find your order confirmation. Keep the email you used at checkout handy, since it is your proof of purchase.
  3. Contact support. Start a claim or ask a question on the contact page. The TheTicketers support team will help with order questions and guarantee claims, including a replacement or a refund where you're eligible.

We never ask for card details over email or phone. If someone contacts you about a refund and asks for your card number, don't share it.

How long refunds take

For a cancelled event, the Buyer Guarantee says your refund is processed back to your original payment method. It does not promise a set number of days, and we won't guess at one here. For the exact terms that apply to your purchase, see the Buyer Guarantee and the guarantee terms shown at checkout, or contact support with your order details.
