About Dubai Fountain Show

The Dubai Fountain is a 275-metre-long choreographed water feature in Burj Khalifa Lake that shoots water jets up to 150 metres high — the height of a 50-storey building — accompanied by 6,600 lights, 25 colour projectors, and a rotating soundtrack of Arabic and international music. It performs every 30 minutes from 6 PM to 11 PM, making it one of the world's most accessible free spectacles. But while watching from the lake shore is impressive, getting onto the water transforms the experience entirely. The Fountain Lake Ride boards you onto a traditional abra (wooden boat) that sails into the fountain basin between performances, then holds position as the next show erupts around you — water, light, and music in every direction with the Burj Khalifa towering directly overhead. The Fountain Boardwalk is a floating platform extending from the shore to just 9 metres from the fountain base — close enough to feel the spray and hear the underwater nozzles firing. Both experiences cost a fraction of a restaurant dinner but deliver front-row immersion.

Tips for Visiting Dubai Fountain Show

The Boardwalk (AED 20) is walk-up only with a queue — arrive 15 minutes before a show time to secure a front-row position.

The Lake Ride abra (AED 65) should be pre-booked online as boats have limited capacity (12 passengers each).

Different songs play at different show times. The Whitney Houston track produces the tallest single jet; the Arabic tracks have the most dramatic group choreography.

Position yourself at Souk Al Bahar bridge for free photos that include the Burj Khalifa centered behind the fountain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Dubai Fountain show really free?

Yes, watching from any public area around Burj Khalifa Lake costs nothing. Shows perform every 30 minutes, 6 PM to 11 PM (plus 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM daytime). The paid options — Boardwalk (AED 20) and Lake Ride (AED 65) — bring you dramatically closer to the water but are not required to enjoy the show.

What songs does the Dubai Fountain play?

The fountain performs a rotating playlist including Arabic classics (Baba Yetu, Sama Dubai), Western pop (Whitney Houston, Andrea Bocelli, Ed Sheeran), Bollywood tracks, and instrumental pieces. Each show time plays a different song. The playlist rotates seasonally, with special performances during Ramadan and UAE National Day.

Where exactly is the Dubai Fountain?

The fountain is in Burj Khalifa Lake at the base of the Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai. It is immediately adjacent to The Dubai Mall (exit via the waterfront promenade on Level G) and Souk Al Bahar. The nearest metro station is Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall (Red Line), a 10-minute walk through the mall to the fountain terrace.
