Get TicketsLas Vegas centers on the Strip, a four-mile boulevard of themed resorts where many attractions are free to admire and others are worth a ticket. The Bellagio Fountains erupt on the half-hour, the High Roller observation wheel climbs 550 feet over the valley, and resorts like the Venetian and Caesars Palace recreate landmarks from around the world.
Nighttime is when the city comes alive, with production shows, residency concerts and Cirque du Soleil performances filling theaters along the Strip. By day, many visitors head out to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam or Red Rock Canyon, all reachable on guided tours or by car.
The Strip is walkable but long, so monorail, trams between resorts and rideshare help cover distances. Summers are very hot, often topping 100 F, so plan outdoor activities for early morning or evening.
Book big shows and Cirque du Soleil performances ahead, as prime weekend dates sell out.
Tackle outdoor tours like the Grand Canyon early to beat midday desert heat.
Use the resort trams and monorail to avoid long walks in summer temperatures.
Factor in resort fees, which are added on top of advertised hotel rates.
The Grand Canyon West rim with Skywalk is about a two-hour drive and is the most common day trip, while the South Rim is farther but more dramatic. Bus tours, small-group vans and helicopter or airplane flights all depart from Las Vegas. Helicopter tours are the fastest and most scenic but cost more.
Yes. The Bellagio Fountains, the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the Venetian's canals and the volcano and atrium displays at various resorts are all free to enjoy. You can also walk the Strip and Fremont Street to take in the architecture and lights without buying tickets.
Spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) bring mild weather ideal for walking the Strip and outdoor tours. Summer is intensely hot, and winter evenings can be cool. Hotel rates fluctuate with conventions and events, so midweek stays are often cheaper than weekends.
