Liverpool is a city where live events are woven into the cultural fabric, from the thunderous atmosphere of Premier League football at Anfield to the echoes of its world-famous musical heritage. Liverpool FC at Anfield is one of the most successful and passionately supported clubs in European football, and matchday at Anfield with the Kop singing You'll Never Walk Alone is one of sport's great experiences. Everton, Liverpool's other Premier League club, are building a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock on the city's waterfront. The M&S Bank Arena on the Kings Dock waterfront is the city's largest indoor entertainment venue with a capacity of around 11,000, hosting major touring artists, comedy tours, and sporting events. The Liverpool Empire Theatre is the largest two-tier auditorium in the UK, staging West End touring musicals, ballet, and opera. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra performs at the Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street, one of the country's finest concert halls. Smaller music venues including the Cavern Club, where The Beatles famously played in the early 1960s, the O2 Academy on Hotham Street, and Arts Club on Seel Street keep the city's live music tradition thriving across all genres. The Liverpool waterfront UNESCO World Heritage Site provides a stunning backdrop for outdoor events, and summer brings festivals like Africa Oye in Sefton Park, one of the UK's largest free African music festivals. The Grand National at Aintree Racecourse each April is one of the most famous horse races in the world, drawing visitors from across the globe.
Liverpool FC tickets are extremely difficult to obtain so register as a member and book early
The Grand National meeting at Aintree takes place over three days in April with the main race on Saturday
Most city centre venues are walkable from Lime Street Station
Check the Echo Arena and Empire Theatre websites regularly for presale access to major shows
Liverpool FC sells tickets through its official website with priority for members and season ticket holders. Hospitality packages are also available for most matches. Standard tickets for high-demand matches like Merseyside derbies and Champions League nights are very difficult to obtain without membership.
Liverpool has a packed events calendar including concerts at the M&S Bank Arena, West End shows at the Empire Theatre, classical performances at the Philharmonic Hall, the Grand National at Aintree in April, and summer festivals like Africa Oye and the Liverpool International Music Festival.
The football season runs August to May, the Grand National is held in April, and summer festivals take place from June through August. The Empire Theatre and M&S Bank Arena host events year-round, and the Christmas pantomime season is a major draw from November.
