Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and its undisputed capital of live entertainment, offering a remarkable concentration of world-class venues and passionate sports culture. The OVO Hydro on the banks of the River Clyde is the third busiest concert arena in the world by ticket sales, hosting major international touring artists, comedy specials, and large-scale productions with a capacity exceeding 14,300. Adjacent to it, the SEC Armadillo and the Scottish Event Campus provide additional spaces for conferences, exhibitions, and mid-size performances. Glasgow's football heritage runs deep with the Old Firm rivalry between Celtic at Celtic Park and Rangers at Ibrox Stadium, two of the most atmospheric grounds in European football. The city's theatre scene is anchored by the Theatre Royal, home to Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, and the King's Theatre, which hosts West End touring musicals and pantomimes. For live music, Glasgow rivals any city in the UK with legendary venues including Barrowland Ballroom, known for its sprung dance floor and electric atmosphere, the SWG3 arts complex in Finnieston, and King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, where Oasis were famously discovered. The summer months bring TRNSMT Festival to Glasgow Green, one of Scotland's largest music festivals. Hampden Park, the national football stadium, hosts Scotland internationals and occasional major concerts. The city's cultural calendar also features Celtic Connections in January, one of the world's premier folk and roots music festivals.
Barrowland Ballroom shows sell out fast so set alerts for your favourite artists
Glasgow's Subway connects the city centre to venues on the south side including Ibrox
Many venues cluster along the Clyde so consider staying in Finnieston or the city centre
Scottish football matches often take place on weekends with Sunday fixtures common in the Premiership
The OVO Hydro is Glasgow's largest indoor venue with a capacity of over 14,300. It sits on the Scottish Event Campus alongside the SEC Armadillo and hosts major touring artists, comedy acts, and sporting events throughout the year.
Both clubs sell tickets through their official websites, with priority given to members and season ticket holders. Old Firm derbies are the hardest to obtain. General sale tickets for other matches are more readily available, particularly for midweek fixtures.
Glasgow has strong year-round programming. Celtic Connections runs in January, the football season spans August to May, summer brings TRNSMT Festival and outdoor events, and the Christmas and pantomime season fills theatres from November through January.
